With funding from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)’s MassTrails program, the FRCOG completed a Mountain Biking Trail Project in collaboration with the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission (BRPC) and Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC). The project scope included developing maps for the mountain biking trails at three state parks that allow mountain biking: Greylock Glen (Berkshire County), Kenneth Dubuque Memorial State Forest (Franklin County), and Mount Holyoke Range State Park (Hampshire County).  The maps were intended for distribution at the parks to provide better trial information and encourage mountain biking.

The project also included looking at the broader trail networks in western Massachusetts and looking for possible connections and new trail opportunities. In addition, the project considered the promotion of the region for recreational mountain biking.  The project report includes the findings from research and outreach to determine where and how mountain biking trail networks could be improved. The report also includes a summary of the information gathered and lessons learned from research of other locations throughout the country.
